Measurements and Calculations of Th E Circular Polarization and of T H E Absolute Intensity of Synchrotron Radiation in Th E Wavelength Range

The circular polarization and the absolute intensity of the elliptically polarized synchrotron radiation were measured in the VUV range as functions of the wavelength and of the vertical emission angle with respect to the orbit plane of the 2.5 GeV synchrotron in Bonn. In the wavelength range from 100 to 40 nm the absolute intensity and the circular polarization of the radiation with a bandwith of 0.05 nm has been experimentally determined to be between 109 and l0 I° photons s i and (83 -+ 3)%, respectively. The experimental data are compared with calculated results obtained on the basis of Schwinger's theory taking into account the properties of the synchrotron as well as of the components in the l0 m normal incidence monochromator.
